I’ve been learning Japanese for the last couple of years. One thing I’ve always wanted to get working is Japanese text input on the Fedora Linux KDE Spin. It turns out, there’s a great Romaji/Hiragana/Kanji keyboard for KDE on Linux, it just takes a little configuring.
Open Konsole and run:
sudo dnf -y install fcitx5-mozc fcitx5-kkc fcitx5-autostart
Log out then back in
Open System Settings
Browse to Keyboard->Virtual Keyboard
Choose “Fcitx 5” and click Apply
Right click the Keyboard icon in system tray
Click “Configure”
Under Available Input Method search for:
Mocz
Then click “<” to add it to “Current Input Method”
Make sure to leave “Keyboard – English (US)” so that you can switch between the two.
Click “OK”
To switch between English and Mozc, just press Control+Space in any application.
As you type in Romaji, Mozc will convert what you type into Hiragana and Kanji, with select-able options in a pop-up.

Detect GTK_IM_MODULE and QT_IM_MODULE being set and Wayland Input method frontend is working. It is recommended to unset GTK_IM_MODULE and QT_IM_MODULE and use Wayland input method frontend instead. For more details see https://fcitx-im.org/wiki/Using_Fcitx_5_on_Wayland#KDE_Plasma
There isn’t much average Joe documentation on it and resolution seems different for Fedora (since im-config isn’t used or something) but at the same time my computer seems to function fine so for the time being I decided to ignore. Not sure if you did either.
I did also receive that message. I ignored it, and all has been working well for me on a KDE Wayland session as well. Hopefully that stays the case, if not, I’ll update the guide 🤞
